the business

In response to the NYT article about Rick Rubin and the music industry: I don't care if the labels collapse. Music isn't going anywhere. Systems change/things fall apart. The rather-flawed music industry could probably stand to have a reboot, and we may be looking at that chance.

edit:
upon finishing the article, i see that rick rubin agrees with me: "Too many people make and love music for it to ever die. It will never be over. The music will outlast us all."

I just realized that Prince has gone from "relevant artist" to "one of those old guys who has released so many albums." Relevance has kind of stopped being the point with him.

I guess there were periods of "relevant artist who's falling off" and "previously relevant artist who fell off," but i didn't realize this was the next step.

I guess this happened, by the 1980s, to Miles.

... did it ever happen to Bob Dylan?
