Casu Marzu

it means "Rotten Cheese." It has the larvae of the Piophila casei, aka "cheese fly," in it.

"Some people clear the larvae from the cheese before consuming; others do not."

"Larvae can pass through the stomach alive (human stomach acids do not usually kill them) and take up residency for some period of time in the intestines, where they can cause serious lesions as they attempt to bore through the intestinal walls."

Non-Turkey Turkeys

Agh! The writing--it wins.

"Is there such a thing as true identity, or is it just a culinary construct?
We leave puzzled, yet full of mousse."

The First Season of Sesame Street

It just came out on DVD, I read. Well, it turns out the old Sesame Street could be like a news story, in slow motion, with original music. Mmm, hypnotizing, as shown.

I'm Still Not There

Uh so that Sufjan version of "Ring Them Bells" off the I'm Not There soundtrack sure does go all Zappa toward the end there.

Hm, Charlotte Gainsbourg is just too cool for school. Somehow I'd rather have her unshaven, cigarette-breathed father whispering in my ear.

so that dylan movie

you know, the one with 6 people playing dylan.

Why did no one tell me until yesterday that the director is the guy who made Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story, acted entirely by barbie dolls?

Also, the soundtrack, where you've got 33 dylan covers and one 1967 dylan b-side, is fascinating for its producers and randomly-appearing "session musicians": members of sonic youth, wilco, television (well, just Tom Verlaine,) and my favorite so far, George Drakoulias. Who? "Sat across from my man reading El Diario, riding the train down from the El Barrio. Went from the station, to Orange Julius, I brought a hot dog from who? George Drakoulias." Thank you, Wikipedia. No really, he's not just that.

Oh, and some of the music's good too. Thanks, Malkmus.
