Hot Sauce Reviews - Devil Drops

Dat'l Do-It Devil Drops

heat rating: 4 (a little hot.)
Here's one to be commended. Despite its low heat rating, it gets winning marks from me for its great flavor and hey, there is a little heat here. Carrot puree is its no. 1 ingredient. Mango juice concentrate is third on the list, and while I can't find the mango in a straight taste of the sauce, I can't complain: it tastes great. First the carrots hit, and then an instant later you taste what I will assume is a combination of the vinegar, datil peppers and lime juice. The burn arrives during this phase, lingering for some time after, with a garlic taste emerging. I like it so much that I've done three straight drops of it while writing this review. I didn't know there was sugar in it until I looked at the ingredients list; it doesn't show at all. A note on its heat: its a rather watery sauce (low viscosity), so I end up using more of it per use than I do with thicker sauces. It packs a little punch with three or four spurts of it on a bowl of spaghetti. I use it primarily for spaghetti and pizza; in fact I got my hands on this bottle explicitly for the purpose of using it on pizza. Devil Drops is one of my favorite hot sauces, one I'd buy again. I recommend it to everyone: newbies will get some heat out of it, veterans will dig its flavor.
